Meet Dr. Fortgang

Dr. Ilana Fortgang was born in San Francisco, California and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University. She obtained her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore and completed residencies in surgery and pediatrics at Tulane University School of Medicine followed by a pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
Dr. Fortgang has over 20 years of experience and specializes in pediatric gastroenterology with specific knowledge in the areas of inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, and Crohn's disease. She has published on such topics as eosinophilic esophagitis, celiac and non-celiac forms of gluten sensitivity, and murine-colitis associated carcinoma.
Dr. Fortgang is currently Chief Pediatric Gastroenterologist at Metropolitan Gastroenterology Associates, Inc. in Marrero, Louisiana and Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Named as Best Doctors in Louisiana in 2009, she has been awarded the distinction every year since. Dr. Fortgang is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Gastroenterology and holds a Louisiana license.
